Beaudesert Library and Civic Precinct

Location: Beaudesert, QLD
Project type: Architecture/Urban Design/Masterplan
Budget: $8,000,000
Status: Design Phase
Organisation: Scenic Rim Regional Council

COMPLETE have been engaged by Scenic Rim Regional Council to provide a concept design for the new Beaudesert Library. The new library is proposed to be located north of the existing Council Building and is a single storey building providing essential library functions along with extensive community spaces.

The design features use of the distinctive brickwork that is common throughout the Beaudesert CBD and a colonnade along the eastern side of the building provides a pedestrian connection to the planned linear park on the former railway corridor land to the north. This also provides an extensive internal/external space which will activate this section of Brisbane St. Internally the library is an open plan design incorporating many of the modern library features including a ‘market place’ ‘maker space, and interactive children’s library. Collection is spread throughout the floor providing many casual and incidental reading spaces offering a variety of user experiences. The total floor area is around 1800m2 and there is the potential to build a first stage of 1488m2 with a second stage to the north of 300m2. A large civic space is planned between the existing Council building and the new library and an opportunity exists to create a common entry courtyard to both buildings in the future.
