One of COMPLETE’S projects forming part of the City of Sydney’s bicycle network commitment, the Lawson Street project aimed to make the connection between the CBD south and Newtown.
The site includes the main pedestrian conduit between Redfern Station and The University of Sydney. In the morning peak 3000 people per hour use a footpath which intersects with the proposed cycleway; this was just one of many issues involving the interaction of different traffic modes, including cycling, with which the project has to contend.
The project included extensive consultation with community and state government groups.
Construction took place in 2015.
