Leumeah Pedestrian Bridge

Location: Leumeah (Adjacent Campbelltown Sports Stadium), NSW
Project type: Project Management, CPTED
Budget: $2,400,000
Status: Completed
Organisation: Campbelltown City Council

COMPLETE were engaged to Project Manage the design development, planning approval and construction of a steel and reinforced concrete footbridge over the main south rail line at Leumeah.

The bridge comprises:

  • An arch shaped truss supported on columns either side of the railway line
  • Access from stairs and a lift from both ends
  • Mesh enclosed sides on the pedestrian bridge deck with polycarbonate sheeting at the lower edge to prevent any interference with the railway services below
  • Steel balustrading with mesh infill for the access stairs
  • New pedestrian paths and landscaping on either side of the bridge to direct people to and from the car park and sports stadium and to improve the amenity of the area
  • Installation of lighting and security cameras to ensure pedestrian safety.

This was completed following a CPTED audit by COMPLETE Urban. The proposed footbridge has been designed in liaison with RailCorp and meets its specifications.

Our engagement commenced after concept design stage and we immediately identified a lack of equitable access of the bridge. Following a design and accessibility review, lifts were added to each end of the bridge, in turn providing equitable access for all users.
