Mudgeeraba Aquatic Centre

Location: Mudgeeraba, QLD
Project type: Architecture, Landscape, Engineering
Budget: $14,000,000
Status: Completed
Organisation: City of Gold Coast

The aquatic centre is designed to be on a podium overlooking an extensive flood plain to the north. The “sanctuary” scheme is a site specific solution, creating an urban destination within the plain.

A generous courtyard is provided at the centre of the complex containing the main pool, children’s play area and cafe. Overhead tensioned cables allow for movable shade cloth canopies to be provided over the interactive play area and a section of the main pool. A singular roof surrounds the pool deck and collects rainwater for reuse.

Multiple modes of use are provided for families, special groups, individuals, young, elderly, able and those with a disability.

COMPLETE Urban worked as Architects in Association with Neeson Murcutt.
