In the course of this project, COMPLETE URBAN (CU) undertook a comprehensive approach that prioritised active engagement and collaboration with the local community, particularly focusing on building strong relationships with the indigenous community and seeking guidance from respected elders. This concerted effort was fundamental in shaping an authentic theme that not only respected the cultural heritage of the area but also enriched the distinctive qualities of the site. CU’s commitment to inclusivity and creating a space that transcends age barriers led us to integrate universal play principles into the project’s conceptual framework. By doing so, we aimed to fashion a play and recreation space that caters to individuals of all ages, fostering a sense of community and encouraging intergenerational interaction. Inspired by the local creation story, the overarching design theme is everyone coming together to the safety of the ‘water hole’.
