Blackheath Town Centre Upgrade

Location: Blackheath, NSW
Project type: Civil, Stormwater, Traffic, Lighting, and Landscaping
Budget: $1.2M
Status: Completed
Organisation: Blue Mountains City Council

In December 2020, COMPLETE was engaged to provide intersection and pedestrian upgrade works at Govetts Leap Road in Blackheath, by Blue Mountains City Council. After extensive public consultation, BMCC required extensive road and footpath regrading of the intersection to provide improved pedestrian safety and compliance with AS1428, as well as continued and improved vehicle movements, especially for buses using all four legs of the intersection. Key features that were incorporated into the design by COMPLETE included WSUD in the form of rain gardens and slotted kerbs, the introduction of three separate pedestrian crossings in compliance with AS1428, and road milling and resheet, with extensive regrading of surface levels to match the pedestrian crossings. The steep existing slope proved challenging, but ultimately, a safe, cost effective solution was prepared.
