Brick Pit Reserve

Location: Frenchs Forest, NSW
Project type: Landscape Architecture
Budget: $4.2M
Status: Completed
Organisation: Northern Beaches Council

Due to the precinct’s established use as a brick pit, Council faced challenges in meeting future open space needs, including practical and financial constraints on acquiring additional land to meet projected demand.

The Brick Pit Reserve design aims to create an open space for local residents, future hospital staff and patients, and the broader Northern Beaches community, focusing on rehabilitating indigenous vegetation, supporting local flora and fauna regeneration, and incorporating features that celebrate the site’s historical context in Frenchs Forest.

Works included:

  • A 1.8m-wide accessible Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) boardwalk around the central water body with two viewing decks.
  •  An acoustic barrier wall along Warringah Road.
  • A 2.5m-wide shared path with brick edging.
  • A play area with embankment play in the north-west corner.
  • Public amenities, park shelter, seating, bins, and a drinking fountain.
  • Open lawn for passive recreation.
  • New canopy trees and a WSUD stormwater garden.
