Ipswich Civic Centre is the primary entertainment venue and function centre in the Ipswich region. It houses touring performances, corporate functions, community events, conferences, wedding receptions, school formals, graduation ceremonies and eisteddfods.
Ipswich City Council sought quotations for a schematic concept design for the proposed upgrade and expansion of the Civic Centre. Council’s intention is to investigate the feasibility of increasing the size, the presence, accessibility and viability of the Ipswich Civic Centre, seeking to improve the existing facility to achieve a fit for purpose venue for patrons and ensure a financially viable Performing Arts Centre into the future.
COMPLETE undertook concept design utilising adaptive redesign and reuse of the existing forms and functions including the addition of a Black Box Theatre to seat 300 patrons. The concept design retains the integrity and distinctiveness of the existing 1970s building that has a landmark quality and has been a noticeable contribution to the evolution of Ipswich’s built and cultural environment.
